Things I Don’t Care About As Your Photographer

Let’s get real for a minute. Every single session starts the same way — someone apologizes.

“Sorry, I’m so awkward in photos.”
“Sorry, I didn’t lose the weight I wanted to.”
“Sorry, my dog won’t behave.”

And every time, I smile and say the same thing: “You don’t need to apologize for being human — or for having a dog that’s just living their best life.”

Because here’s the truth — there are a lot of things I don’t care about as your photographer.

1. I Don’t Care If You’re Nervous

Almost everyone is. Even the people who seem totally relaxed in their portraits felt awkward for at least the first few minutes. My job isn’t to photograph a “perfect” version of you — it’s to help you feel comfortable enough to let your natural confidence show.

So go ahead, take a deep breath. Laugh at yourself. We’ll get through the jitters together (and honestly, it’ll make for some of the best shots).

2. I Don’t Care What Size You Are

Your worth has nothing to do with a number. I’ve photographed every shape, size, and season of life — and every single person has something incredible that deserves to be seen.

My lighting, posing, and camera angles are designed to flatter you, not change you. You don’t need to shrink, smooth, or hide — you just need to show up as you.

3. I Don’t Care If Your Kids (or Pets) Won’t Sit Still

If your session feels a little chaotic… that’s normal. Whether it’s a toddler on the move or a golden retriever who thinks “sit” is just a suggestion, I’m ready for it.

Some of my favorite portraits come from the in-between moments — the giggles, the barking, the pure joy that happens when no one’s trying too hard. That’s real life, and it’s beautiful.

4. I Don’t Care If You Don’t Know What to Do With Your Hands

You’re not supposed to! That’s my job. I’ll tell you exactly what to do, where to look, and when to breathe. And when it all feels awkward, we’ll turn it into a laugh — which, by the way, photographs beautifully.

5. I Don’t Care About “Perfect”

Perfection is overrated. The best portraits are never about flawless makeup, perfect posture, or a picture-perfect pet. They’re about moments — the tiny, real, unfiltered flashes of connection that make your photos feel alive.

If your hair flies in the breeze or your dog photobombs your solo shot — I’m here for it. That’s the magic.

But Here’s What I Do Care About

I care about capturing you — not the filtered, polished version, but the real, wonderful, perfectly imperfect version that your loved ones adore.

I care about the laughter that breaks out halfway through a pose, the way your eyes light up when your dog finally looks at the camera, and that little moment when you stop performing and start feeling.

I care about the story behind your portraits — how they’ll hang on your wall, how they’ll remind you of this season of life, and how they’ll make you smile years from now when you’ve forgotten what was “supposed” to be perfect.

I care about creating a space where you feel seen, celebrated, and confident in your own skin — where your quirks, your energy, and even your chaos are part of what makes your session yours.

Because portraits shouldn’t just look beautiful. They should feel like you.
